It was in 1968, Steve Prefontaine's junior year at Marshfield, when a new rubber cinder track was completed. That surface served the school well for many years, but time took its toll. In 2000, the old cinder track was replaced with a beautiful new poured track. A number of runners asked if we would be selling remnants of the old cinder track and this prompted us to save a small section of the cinder track.
We are now making small sections of the old surface available to the public. The remnants have been placed in a myrtlewood plaque made in the shape of the State of Oregon.
Actual wood grain and color may vary from the picture.
