Jumping is one of the oldest disciplines in athletics. A high level of training in this sport will also improve technique in basketball, volleyball, tennis, parkour, etc. Often athletes combine strength training with jumping training to make their training more “multifaceted”, developing not only strength, but also flexibility, agility and speed. Achieving results in jumping, both long and high, depends on the degree of preparation. In the first case, the main thing is the maximum speed of the run-up, in the second – the force of pushing off. Exercises are aimed at developing these skills.
The first part of the training period refers to May and June, the second part – to July – September and less often, only in southern regions, can take up the month of October. However, the main part of the competition period refers to July and August during the most important competitions. Each of the stages of the main period has differences both in tasks and in the content and especially in the dosage of training work and rest.
Tasks of pre-competition training
- Development of speed and speed endurance so that last year’s speed is exceeded at this time;
- Improvement of jumping technique, rhythm, speed and accuracy in the run-up and the ability to push off at full run-up speed;
- Bringing the jumper to a state close to “sports form”, exceeding already at this stage the level of last year’s level;
- Further improvement of all-round physical development;
- Development of moral and volitional qualities and the ability to prepare for and perform in competitions.
At this time, the same means are mainly used as in April, but in the jumping material the main thing becomes the jump itself from different run-up lengths with an emphasis on increasing the run-up speed.
